Spiritual Director Kushok Lobsang Dhamchoe is pleased to announce a new 3-week Children’s Meditation course, Calm Mind, Open Heart: Mindfulness for Children, beginning Saturday, October 1, 2022.

It’s no secret that the past 2 years have not been easy on our kids.

In addition to the usual childhood stressors, our kiddos have experienced unprecedented disruptions to their lives. Many children and parents have reported feeling greater levels of anxiety, loneliness, and stress, and many families are responding with a new focus on well-being and mental health. A powerful tool for stress management, emotional regulation, and positive mental well-being is mindfulness.

Our Children’s Meditation Program teaches basic mindfulness techniques, with a focus on the cultivation of a peaceful mind and a loving and kind attitude. Children will explore the meaning of happiness and create their own feelings of peace and contentment through mindfulness meditations, mindful movement, and curriculum-based activities.

While children participate in mindfulness practices and activities downstairs, parents and caregivers are invited to join Kushok in the shrine room for meditation instruction and practice, as well as advice on mindful parenting and the creation of their own meditation practice.

As our kiddos return to school, sports, and socializing this fall, let’s equip them with the tools to support their well-being. Please don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to explore the benefits of mindfulness for both you and your child.

COURSE DETAILS:

Our Seeds of Happiness Children’s Meditation Program teaches basic meditation techniques, with a focus on the cultivation of a loving and kind attitude. We base our program on “universal ethics” or aspects of positive character and well-being valued by all: kindness, compassion, patience, contentment, self-control, and love.

While children participate in mindfulness practices and activities downstairs, parents are invited to join Kushok in the shrine room for meditation instruction and practice as well as advice on how to be a mindful and compassionate parent.

This course is open to all! New and returning students are welcome, all faiths are welcome, and no meditation experience is required.
