Losar Tibetan New Year

    February 21st 2026

    11:00am - 2:00pm

Gaden Samten Ling Alberta Centre for Peace and Meditation

We are delighted to invite you to join us on February 21, 2026, for our Losar (Tibetan New Year) Celebration!

This serves as a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together to generate merit and start the Year of the Fire Horse (2026) with auspicious energy.

     The Significance of Losar

Losar marks the beginning of a powerful time known as the "Month of Miracles." This period commemorates the two weeks when Shakyamuni Buddha performed a series of miracles to inspire faith and silence those who challenged his teachings.

According to tradition, the karmic results of our actions, both positive and negative, are multiplied millions of times during these first few weeks of the year. Therefore, it is a perfect time to deepen our commitment to study, practice, and compassion. By aligning ourselves with the Buddha’s great deeds, we harness this energy to aid our personal evolution toward enlightenment.

     Ceremony Details

We are fortunate to offer our respect in person to the throne of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and to our precious Teachers, Kushok Lobsang Dhamchoe and Geshe-la Labsum. Together, we will offer the Mandala (representing the universe), Khatas (scarves), and monetary offerings. We will also recite offering prayers, auspicious prayers, and long-life prayers for our teachers.
